Edwards v. Leaders in Community Alternatives (2018)
This is a class action complaint filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, Oakland Division. Alameda County has contracted with Leaders in Community Alternatives ("LCA") to provide court-ordered GPS and alcohol tracking devices for individuals on pre-trial or home detention. Plaintiffs allege that LCA's conduct is lawful and are seeking declaratory, injunctive, compensatory, and punitive relief for themselves and all others similarly situated. Plaintiffs demand a jury trial and have requested relief to include: (1) a declaratory judgment that subjecting the Plaintiffs to the Defendants’ conduct as alleged in the Counts listed above is unlawful; (2) an order and judgment preliminarily and permanently enjoining the Defendants from continuing the described policies and practices against the Plaintiffs and the Class of similarly situated people on whose behalf they are bringing suit; (3) a judgment compensating the Plaintiffs and the Class of similarly situated individuals for the damages that they suffered as a result of the Defendants’ unconstitutional and unlawful conduct; (4) a judgment granting the treble and punitive damages authorized by statute; and (5) an order and judgment granting reasonable attorneys’ fees and any other relief this Court deems just and proper.
