Exposure to the US Criminal Legal System and Well-Being - AJPH 2020

While incarceration has been linked to a host of negative health outcomes, new research shows that even more transient forms of exposure to the criminal legal system are harmful. Researchers found that exposure to police stops, arrests and incarceration are all associated with lower assessments of thriving in life and in all five domains of well-being: physical health, mental health, social support, spiritual well-being and financial well-being.
