Mass Incarceration and Subsequent Preventive Health Care - AJPH 2020

Researchers with the Department of Criminal Justice, University of Louisville, found that arrest is linked to lower probabilities of receiving preventive health care, such as blood cholesterol and blood sugar tests. These decreased probabilities may be explained blocked access to health care, because incarceration makes it difficult to obtain jobs that provide health insurance benefits, and an inability to afford out-of-pocket healthcare.
