People v. Yanez - California 2019

The Court of Appeal of California held in People v. Yanez that equal protection requires that pretrial detainees held in home confinement on electronic monitoring be eligible for good conduct credits against their sentences later imposed by the trial court. Under California law, people who serve sentences on home confinement post-conviction are eligible for good conduct credits; the court found that the circumstances under which people are detained at home before trial are substantially the same as those serving post-conviction sentences for the purposes of an equal protection challenge.
