A study was done on the effectiveness of Virginia’s pretrial risk assessment tool (VPRAI) and the PRAXIS test, and the impact they have on pretrial cases and a judge’s decision in sentencing a defendant. The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services requested further analysis of the results of this study in order to determine if the VPRAI can be improved and the PRAXIS revised. This report discusses the results from the analysis and presents data on the reasons why some cases failed. There are seven steps outlined in the document that were followed in order to complete the objectives.
