Report of the Georgia Council on Criminal Justice Reform - State of Georgia 2018

04-09-2018 01:44 PM

The Georgia Council on Criminal Justice Reform has submitted this report to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and Chief Judge of the Georgia Court of Appeals for full consideration during the 2018 legislative session. This report outlines the Council's most recent recommendations. The council has urged the creation of new committees to continue work in several areas, including: improvements to be made within Georgia's cash bail system; focus on the intersection of mental illness and incarceration; and oversight to ensure that cost savings from reforms are reinvested wisely and that those administering justice in Georgia are fully aware of the new policies and practices that have quickly transformed the state’s approach to crime and punishment.
